Because I have a selection of steam locomotives and a DMU, I had to change my layout from Walmington-on-Sea to Walmington cum Yealmington, the West Sussex location of the television series “Dad’s Army”.

It’s great to hear the steam sounds on the depot layout. Very exciting!!!!

This is more like my line of country!’ To me, 00 rules the roost, as does DCC Sound for both diesel and steam engines.

Not many British trains have bells on them!! Why has the Class 24/5 got one?

Levenbank is certainly a wonderful layout. I’m not sure about its accuracy, but it shows the great Scottish landscape to full advantage.

Sherton Abbas looks just like dear old Sherborne!! I used to get off there when I went to boarding school!!

The video has just confirmed that this layout is a Great Western layout in the style of a Great Eastern one. Gorgeous!!

Which region is this layout? It looks like it might be something very similar to the Wisbech and Upwell Tramway.

Very enjoyable video. Some excellent modelling on show. But what were the occasional bursts of musical vocals on the PA system? Were Great Western modellers being called to prayer at the GW shrine behind the Heljan stand? Swindon types will do anything to promote their chosen prototype.

IN THE TIME MODELLERS FORGOT !!!! 0:44 In the steam era, passenger trains HAD to have a carriage with a brake compartment in the last vehicle ! A major reason why many passenger trains operated with a braked vehicle each end, which saved shunting at the end of the line !!! Until 1978 the "Guard" was a Security Guard for the safety of the train & passengers. And was legally empowered to restrain troublesome passengers with ANY force deemed necessary to ensure safety, and a Bardic lamp came in very handy on such occasions ! He was therefore obliged to spend much of his time in his brake compartment, as his other duties included being responsible for ensuring the Driver did not pass a signal at danger, which explains periscopes & lookouts !!!

IGNORANCE IS BLISS !!! Modellers today make some really daft mistakes, which reveals they have NO knowledge of operational reality ! Passenger stock: ex GWR & LMS corridor coaches could NOT be coupled to ex SR, LNER, BR or Pullman corridor coaches, as the former had British Standard Suspension corridors with Screwlink couplings, while the later had Pullman corridor gangways with rubbing bars & Buckeye semi-auto couplers. BR steam era Freight trains: Vacuum fitted wagons (painted mainly red oxide) had to go in front of any "Unfitted" (no train brake) wagons usually painted light grey, for obvious safety reasons !!!!

Just got back from there and really enjoyed it. Some fantastic layouts there!

Bridge Street is a lovely piece of work. For my eyes, it’s a great layout with everything you expect from a model railway.

Wow!! The Class 37 and the Class 43 sound like the real locomotives!!

My top 2 favourite layouts in this video are the Chapel-en-le-Frith and Grantham layouts because I love all the steam hauled long haul passenger trains!

Lisworth Bay is a really good layout, but it’s one of those that is close but no cigar!!

I see Welby Lane’s a diesel depot. If I was to make a depot, it would be a steam one. I’ve seen this done in 0 gauge, but never in 00!!

Rostven is much more interesting to me as I, too model in 00. I’m considering looking at a 009 layout to replicate the Folk’s Railway in Brighton. It’s about time that a major model manufacturer brought out a selection of the trains for this attractive little railway rather than leaving it to kit manufacturers to make the most of this short seaside railway.
